Clinician

The Clinician will administer a mental health screen to students within their school site, provide a private, confidential follow up interview to students identified with potential mental health concerns through the screening process or per request, and offer case management to the student and family to connect the student to supports and services to improve mental wellness. The Clinician must effectively communicate with students, families, school staff, and community members.

*** This position (0.75 FTE) is full time (40 hours) between the months of September to May and UNPAID time off during summer months ***

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Program Coordinator to prepare for the administration of screening including finalizing screening schedules, obtaining student enrollment information and rosters, as well as confirming logistics such as time of screening and rooms available for interviews.
  • Administer the mental health screen to students within their school site.
  • Interpret and triage results of the screen to ensure students are met with in a timely manner.
  • Provide a private, confidential follow up interview to youth who have been identified with potential mental health concerns through the screening process or per request. Provide recommendations for resources and services to improve mental wellness.
  • Conduct a follow up interview with the parent/ guardian of students who have been identified with potential mental health concerns through the parent report screening process and with students who have been identified after gaining consent from parent. Provide recommendations for resources and services to improve mental wellness.
  • Share results of the screen and interview with parent/ guardian as well as recommendation for resources and services through telephone contact. Offer ongoing telephone support to connect students to resources and services per recommendation.
  • Collect and reconcile required data for analysis and report out to school district/site(s).
  • Communicate with staff at assigned school sites regarding outcome trends within the screening process to support school sites in providing necessary supports if applicable (e.g., anxiety support groups, LGBTQ supports, bullying solutions, etc.).
  • Attend school site/district events that promote the program including Open Houses, Registration, Mental Health Fairs, staff, student, and parent/guardian presentations.
  • Attend organization and program meetings as required.

  • Well versed in mental health/ wellness resources available in the community

  • Persistent follow through to see that families are connected to recommended resources
  • Ability to problem solve in the moment and perform at high level of independence
  • Ability to remain calm during times of crisis, and follow proper protocol for urgent evaluations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or human service-related field
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in a mental health setting
  • Minimum of 1 year experience providing case management
  • Independent experience assessing youth for symptoms of mental illness/emotional health concerns and suicide risk
  • Experience using screening tools or DSM-5 (or most current version) a criterion for assessing youth

Recommended

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or human service-related field, or currently enrolled in a mental health program.
  • Licensed mental health practitioners (e.g., clinical social worker, licensed mental health provider/therapist, clinical psychologist, and child psychiatrist) with a minimum of two years post-graduate work experience in screening and/or mental health assessment of youth are encouraged to apply.
