For years now, stitchers at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Appleton have created beautiful prayer shawls for our clients. Now we have a new way of matching just the right prayer shawl with just the right client.

In the past, a counselor would choose a prayer shawl for a client for whom such a spiritual tool might provide comfort. Recently, counselor Renee M.C. Taylor suggested we display our inventory of prayer shawls so that clients could choose the one to which they’re most drawn.

“Every prayer shawl is unique, just as every client is unique,” Renee says.

This new way of sharing First Congregational’s gifts with our clients weaves giver and receiver together in a special way. Thank you to the knitters and crocheters who make this spiritual practice possible!
