Faith Leaders Explore Model for Ministering to Mental Health

A group of Fox Cities faith leaders may have found the model they are looking for to help tackle mental health issues in the community, reported Katherine Lymn of the Post-Crescent in an article in Saturday’s edition.

The Rev. Dale Kuhn of St. Louis spoke about the model at a luncheon for faith leaders hosted by LEAVEN on Oct. 15. It involves forming neighborhood clusters of faith leaders who receive instruction on mental health issues as well as case management tips from clinicians and other experts.

Some 20 faith leaders expressed interest in learning more as the regional initiative develops. Samaritan leads the initiative in collaboration with NAMI Fox Valley, the NEW Mental Health Connection and LEAVEN. The initiative is funded in part by a grant from the Basic Needs Giving Partnership Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region supported by the J. J. Keller Foundation, Inc., the U.S. Venture Fund for Basic Needs and other community partners.
